Menthi pappu or methi pappu is a very healthy dish and easy to prepare. It can be eaten with potato fry or any other fry item as a side dish.

I don't use onion in this dish as the flavor will go if I use onion.

- Tour dal 1/4 kg
- Fresh Menthi leaves handful
- Green mirchi 6
- Tamarind little
- Turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seeds 1/4 tbsp
- Dry red chilli 1 tear into pieces
- Hing pinch
- Curry leaves
- Oil !/2 tbsp
How to prepare
- If time permits soak tour dal for one hour.
- By adding washed menti leaves, mirch,soaked tamarind turmeric powder and salt keep along with soaked tour dal in pressure pan.
- Put the weight and cook on medium flame.
- After 6 to 7 wistles switch off the stove.
- Let it cool.
- Remove the weight.
- Stir well to make into paste.
- For seasioning, take pan with a 1/2 tbsn of oil, add mustard seeds, red chilli, hing and curry leaves.
- Add it to menthi pappu.
- Mix well.
Serve with hot rice with combition of gummadi vadiyalu.
My daughter in law uses fresh lemon juice instead of tamarind. It is lovely and tasty too.
You can add lemon juice finally ie after completion of menti pappu. Not at the time of cooking.I don't use onion in this dish as the flavor will go if I use onion.
