Pulusu Upma

I think you all must have heard of pulusu upma made of rice rava.

First time I had this item in my in-laws house in Rayalaseema. My mother-in-law makes it very tasty . Takes little bit time but very tasty.

Ingredients:
  • Rice rava                             2 cups
  • Onions                                 4 finely chopped 
  • Green chillies                      10 to12 depends (Make it into paste}
  • Tamarind paste 3 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder                a pinch
  • Jaggery                                3 tbsp
  • Channadal                           1tbsp
  • Mustered seeds 1tbsp 
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves
  • Oil
  • Water                5 cups ( for 1cup of water you should add 2 ½  cups of water)

Method:
  1. Take  deep pan  add rice rava  and roast  it for 5 minutes till it turns little brown and keep aside.
  2. Take 5 tbsp of oil in a pan and add mustard, channadal, green chilli paste, curry leaves and turmeric powder and let it fry for 2 minutes.
  3. Add chopped onion and fry till it turns brown.
  4. Add tamarind paste and 5 cups of water, add salt and jaggery powder.
  5. Let it  boil , then add rice rava to boiled water
  6. Keep stirring until it gets thick like upma and cooked
  7. Now keep the flame in low and get cooked for some time .Stir now and then. The whole process will take 30 minutes..
Ahaaaaaa.. Tasty pulusu upma is ready. This upma when served after it is cooled down will also be tasty.

Normally maredu kommulu and roasted check powder (putana podi) is good combination for this pulusu upma.

Note:
We can carry this during the journeys as well as it does not spoil for 2 days.
