Dahi vada

Hi Friends

Today I am coming up with yet another yummy dish - DAHI VADA.

This very delicious and mouth watering dish can be eaten on a hot day and can be served chill.  This tempering dish can be served as main course or side dish. Yesterday my daughter has invited newly married couple for lunch. I have prepared this mouth watering dish. They all enjoyed and appreciated me for preparing this dish..

Ingredients (for  15 medium size vada)
  • Urad dal             250 gms
  • Curd                   1/2 kg
  • Ginger                small piece
  • Coriander leaves
  • Curry leaves
  • Oil for fry
For gravy for dahi vada
  • Kaskas              2 tbsp
  • Daniya               1 tbsp
  • Green mirchi       3
For Popu
  • Mustard seeds
  • Jeera
  • Curry leaves
  • Dry red mirchi        1 tear
How to prepare
  1. Wash  urad dal 2 to 3 times till water appears clear.
  2. Soak for 4 to 5 hours. Drain it well..
  3. Grind the urad dal  into adding very little water.
  4. Take this batter into bowl. Add salt and mix well.
  5. Mean time grind kaskas, daniya and green mirchi into smooth paste.
  6. Take curd in a little deep tray and beat it well with spoon. Don't grind curd.
  7. Add grinded paste into curd, add little salt, ginger pieces to it..
  8. Take 1/2 spoon of oil  heat it. Add jeera, mustered seeds, curry leaves and tear red mirchi . Let it pop and mix it in curd.
  9. Take frying pan add oil and heat the oil on medium flame.
  10. Drop vada one by one into oil and fry both sides till turns into golden brown.
  11. Let them cool for 2 mins.
  12. Then soak prepared vadas into dahi texture for 20 minutes . Turn vadas once for soaking the other side also  properly.
  13. Finally garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve gently without disturbing vada along with curd gravy around.

Note
  • My mother uses kaskas, daniya and green mirchi paste for the purpose of gravy and for taste.
  • In small restraunts, they dip the vadas in water for a second, squeeze it pressing between two palms and then dip in the curd mixture. It seems little watery, so my mother dips vadas directly in curd mixture.
