Challa challani Kammani Maggiga

With Fresh Lemon Juice and Salt
Today I am coming with heavenly traditional drink i.e. challa challani kammani maggiga. In summer I prepare churned butter milk in a big eathern pot.  It is quite essential in hot summers, when guests comes to our house, it is a comforting to serve them this buttermilk. Moreover it is tradition too. It is nothing but blending of fresh curd but what makes it more tasty is what I am going to tell you today. We will make variety of flavours of maggiga by using differnt combinations.

I like traditional way to prepare butter milk with KAVVAM (traditional wooden churner). Churn the curd into butter milk and add necessary salt and water to make it thin. Then add either:

  1. Crushed ginger, slit green chillies and curry leaves
  2. Cumin powder and coriander leaves
  3. Fresh lemon juice, slit green chillies and coriander leaves
  4. Mint leaves (teared) and Coriander leaves (teared)

Sometimes if available I add Narinja leaf bits in addition for a nice aroma. One can make the flavors  by creativity to make butter milk. No fancy items needed.

Make the buttermilk early in the morning and keep it in the fridge. Leave it for 2-3 hours when the flavours nicely blend into the buttermilk. It is easy to grab a glass of butter milk when ever you want.

My Notes:

  1. It strengthens and increases our appetite and digestive system.
  2. It is recommended  for home remedies like stomachache, diarrhoea etc. Taking mutter milk with tbsp. of fenugreek (methi) seeds twice a day is best home medicine.
  3. One of the best way to rehydrate our self is  taking butter milk  in peak summer.
