Alachandalu Kakara pandla curry

To day I am going to introduce a new yummy yummy verity curry which is having 5 tastes ie katta, meeta, bitter, salty and karam with combination of alachandalu/bobbarlu and kakara pandlu.Normally most of us don't like karela and run away from it. But I love karela and prepare many verities out of it and always looking for new verities to make out of karela. I learnt this from my grandmother.

Try by your self this rich in vitamin and healthy dish. Let us start.



INGREDIENTS

  • Alachandalu/ bobbarlu                                 1/2 cup
  • Karela pandlu                                               4 nos( medium size)
  • Onion                                                            1 big( chopped)
  • Green mirchi                                                 3 make slices
  • Red mirchi powder                                       1/2 tbsp
  • Tamarind pulp                                              2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder
  • Jaggery powder                                            2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds                                           1/4 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds
  • Hing
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil                                                                 3 tbsp


HOW TO PREPARE
  1. Wash alachandulu and soak for 4 to 5 hours.
  2. Boil them in pressure cooker till 3 whistles and keep aside.
  3. Wash kakara pandlu and cut them into pieces.
  4. Take a pan,  add oil to it and heat.
  5. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter, then add fenugreek seeds and pinch of hing add turmeric powder.
  6. Then add chopped onion.
  7. Fry them for a while.
  8. Add karela pandlu pieces and saute  for 5 to 6 minutes.
  9. Then add sliced green mirchi, chilli powder tamarind pulp, jaggery powder,curry leaves  and salt to taste. If required water. 
  10. Then add boiled alachandulu  mix well.
  11. Let it boil.The constituency should be little thick like gravy constituency.
  12. Transfer into a bowl.
      Serve with garama garam rice along with ghee. It goes well with chapati also.

NOTE

Alternatively, you can add channa dal instead of alachandalu.
Don't remove the seed from the karela. They are good for health.
