Ingredients
- Whole black gram dal 2 cups
- Sugar 1cup
- Ghee 3/4 cup
How to prepare
- Dry roast the whole black gram on medium flame till you get aroma of black gram dal. Keep stirring as they fry. Otherwise it will burn.
- Grind the black gram dal into fine powder. It is best to grind with old stone grinder (called tiragali in telugu). My grand mother used to grind black gram dal with this old stone grinder only. When we are small we used to sit around this stone grinder and put handful of dal in the grinder. You can grind it in the mixey. After grinding you have to sieve. The final powder should be fine.
- Grind the sugar in the mixey.
- Then mix this black gram powder and powdered sugar in a wide basin.
- Meanwhile melt the ghee.
- Add melted ghee and mix with hand till the mix hold together. Make this mix into round balls and the sunnandalu are ready.
My tips:
You can add half jaggery and half sugar or complete jaggery.
In my mother in laws house they prepare with pottu minapappu.
Truly delicious Sunnundalu that are favorites for all ages.
