Kakarakaya podi

In this cooking session, I am intrested in preparing kakarakaya/ karela podi. Very easy preparation. But takes time to prepare. If you like this procedure of preparation try by yourself, and taste it and make others ie your near and dear to taste this heavenly karela podi.

 
Ingredients

 
  • Fresh Karela                        1/2 kg
  • Channa dal                           2 tbsp
  • Daniya                                   1/4 tbsp
  • Dry coconut powder              2 tbsp
  • Tamarind                                4 to 5 leaves
  • Jaggery powder                      3  tbsp
  • Jeera                                      Pinch
  • Garlic                                     5 to 6 flakes
  • Dry red chillies                        6 (adjust)
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
How to prepare

 
  1. Wash karela . Cut into thin small pieces.
  2. Take a bowl, add 1 tbsp of curd and salt.
  3. Add these karela pieces into it. Keep aside for 30 minutes.
  4. Then squeeze the karela pieces. Keep aside.
  5. Mean time take little depth pan, add oil for deep fry for karela on medium flame.
  6. Deep fry the karela pieces till it turns brown.
  7. Fry channa dal, daniya tamarind, jeera, garlic, red chillies and curry leaves with drop of oil.
  8. Grind it by adding  dry coconut powder also.
  9. Then mix this semi powder to roasted karela pieces.
  10. Finally add salt and again fry for some time till karela pieces coated with grind ed powder.
  11. Cool it and keep it in air tight bottle.
  12. Serve it with ghee and hot hot rice.
Note

 
It should preserve for 10 to 15 days. Normally we take this  katta meeta karela podi at the time of dinner with rice.
