Pesara kattu

I  learnt this recipe from my grandmother. She prepares it so well. Generally we eat this at dinner time. It is very comfort food and easy digestion having good fiber and protein. It also helps to reduce cholesterol. Generally we make it in summer as pesarapappu is good to have during summers.

Ingredients (for 4 persons)
  • Moong dal                    100 gms
  • Ginger                           small piece chopped
  • Garlic flakes                  4 lenthy slices
  • Green chillies                 2 chopped
  • Dry red chillies               2 tear
  • Cumin seeds
  • Turmeric powder
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil                               1 tbsp
  • Fresh Lemon juice        2 tbsp

How to prepare
  1. Wash and soak moong dal for 1/2 hour.
  2. Cook this moong dal with salt and turmeric powder in pressure cooker till you get 5 whistles. Not too pasty.
  3. Keep it aside and let it cool.
  4. Mean time take popu pan add oil, heat it on medium flame.
  5. Add cumin seeds, chopped green chillies, tear red chillies garlic flacks . Let them sizzle. Then add curry leaves.
  6. Mix it into cooked moog dal and stir well.
  7. Finally season with lemon juice. Make sure that the dal is cooled. Other wise the dish becomes bitter.
  8. If required add little water to make the texture loose.
It goes with roti. Rice pesara kattu and avakaya is a great combination. My children like this combination very much.

My tip

If you are interested you can add vegetables like bottle goard, drum sticks or raw tomato also. Cook them and mix in kattu.
