Carrot puli pori

I am interested in preparing variety dishes. My children like new variety dishes very much. Now I am preparing new dish with carrot. I learnt this when I was in Channai. This carrot curry is made out of puli (tamarind) onions etc.This pori (curry) is excellent and delicious dish in south style. It takes little time for preparation.

Ingredients

  • Fresh carrot                                1/2 kg
  • Onion                                          1 big (Chopped finely)
  • Tamarind  Juice                          11/2 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder
  • Sugar (Option)                            1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil                                                2 tbsp
For making curry powder

  • Channa dal                                    2 tbsp
  • Urad dal                                        1 tbsp
  • Dry red mirchi                                5 to 6   
  • Daniya                                            1/2 tbsp
Popu

  • Mustered seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves



How to prepare

  1. Wash carrot in running rater.
  2. Cut top and tail.
  3. Peel out the skin with peeler. Cut into half circular pieces looks nice to see.
  4. Cook them in pressure cooker for one wistle. Drain and keep aside.
  5. Mean time take a pan, add a drop of oil, heat it on a medium flame and fry all ingredients shown above at making curry powder till it turns brown.
  6. Grind it finely. Keep it aside.
  7. Take the same pan add remaining oil to it, heat it add mustered seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves and chopped onion. Fry them well.
  8. Then add boiled carrot pieces into it. Stir well.
  9. Add salt, Tamarind juice and curry powder to it. Cook for 5 more minutes till the raw smell of tamarind juice is gone.
  10. Finally add handful of coriander leaves, mix well.
  
    This carrot puli pori go well with rice and chapati.
